Also, the reverse is just as true. When the sun is hiding and rain is coming down in buckets, I feel gloomy and upset. I usually can still find shreds of hope, but they can feel like they are being washed away by the rain like the once-colorful chalk drawings on the sidewalk. It is a lot harder to believe that things can get better. I don't necessarily hate rainy days (if I can curl up in bed and read or nap, then they are okay), they just seem to make it harder for me to hold on to the hope that keeps me going. Stormy days make it even harder.
It is pretty amazing how much the weather can effect our moods.
A random thought I had the other day was whether the weather when we are born has anything to do with the kind of weather that makes us have good and bad moods. I was born on a sunny day, and sunny days make me happy. I have friends who love rainy days. I never thought to ask my friends who like rainy days if they were born on rainy/gloomy days.
A very random thought indeed, but an interesting one.
So, what was the weather like when you were born? And is that the weather that you like most?

My mood is most definitely affected by the weather. In the past, my ED status always bottomed out in February, and I typically tend to start on the upslope with both behaviors and thoughts around the end of April, when everything is waking up and pretty again, and when Daylight Savings Time has started. I am a firm believer in the validity of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are feeling hopeful and more positive today. Keep hanging in there, all of those things you want are indeed out there, you just have to build up the confidence to reach out and take them.
Take care!
i totally get that. While i enjoy the excitement of a good thunderstorm, i hate it when the rain just parks it over your region for like a week and you almost forget what it was like to see the sun. I don't know what the weather was like when i was born; that is a good question!
ReplyDeletei have no idea what the weather was like when i was born.. but i love cool weather, and thunderstorms.
ReplyDeletei went to sleep to the sounds of thunder last night. perfect lullaby :)
