I was reading a blog where the writer noted that we always look at this quote to indicate negative things shall pass, but it also refers to positive things as well. It basically refers to all aspects of life - good, bad, and otherwise.
This, while actually really obvious, really made me start thinking about how the the writer was so true. We always think - this horrible situation, I can't wait until it is over. However, when we are on vacation - no matter how much fun we have, it will also pass. That is the way life works; everything is constantly changing. It reminds me of another quote: The only thing that is constant is change.
I often think about how I constantly feel as though I am wishing away life. Every weekday, I always think 5 days until the weekend, 4 days until the weekend, etc. I look forward to days off work, vacations, seeing friends I haven't seen in a while, etc. It would only be normal to be excited for these things, but can I do that but also live in the moment? What exactly does that mean, anyway? If you live in the moment, does that mean you also don't think about the future? Because, if so, how is that smart - don't you need to somewhat plan for the future?
How can I learn to appreciate every moment of life? Is that even possible? I don't want to wish my life away, but I also know that it is important to have things in life to look forward to with a sense of excitement in order not to get overwhelmed with the daily struggles and issues. How can I appreciate every day for what it is while also planning for a future in the hopes that it might be better than the past?
